Territet is a village in the Swiss canton of Vaud and belongs to the political municipality of Montreux .
history
The village of Territet, which was called Tarritet until 1618 and belonged to Les Planches until 1961 , consisted of five houses in 1693 and belonged to the parish of Montreux. With the advent of tourism in the middle of the 19th century, the village experienced an upswing. In 1861 a railway station for the Simplon line was built, in 1866 a ship landing stage, in 1883 the “ Territet – Glion ” funicular and in 1910 another “Territet – Mont Fleuri” funicular. An English church was later built in Territet (1874).
Ami Chessex , the hotelier and politician who, together with his brother-in-law Alexandre Emery, was responsible for the rapid upgrading of Montreux, had the modest hostel "Chasseur des Alpes" built into the Hôtel des Alpes in 1841 , which was completed in 1855. It later became the "Grand Hôtel et Hôtel des Alpes", which was completed again in 1888 and rebuilt in 1895, 1904 and 1911. Many nobles visited the place, including Elisabeth of Austria-Hungary , who visited Territet four times (between 1893 and 1898) and for whom a memorial was erected in 1902. Even Franz Joseph I visited the place in the 1893rd
