Ami Chessex

Ami Chessex (born March 5, 1840 in Territet , † April 24, 1917 in Montreux , resident in Les Planches ) was a Swiss entrepreneur and politician .

In 1887, the son of a hotelier turned the family hotel in Territet into a "grand hotel". Chessex participated in the development of the climatic health resort Leysin in 1890 and was a co-founder and board member of the Territet-Glion (1881), Glion-Naye and Aigle-Leysin (1892) railway lines . In 1903 he founded the “Société romande d'électricité”, which he headed until his death.

Ami Chessex was on the Montreux City Council for 50 years and on the Grand Council of the Canton of Vaud from 1889–1898 . He also held various board memberships. For example at the “Hotel Viktoria” in Interlaken , at the “Trois-Couronnes” hotel in Vevey , at the Ateliers de constructions mécaniques de Vevey and the “Banque de Montreux”.

Together with his brother-in-law Alexandre Emery , he was largely responsible for building up tourism in and around Montreux ( Vaudois Riviera ).
