The Global Anabaptist Mennonite Encyclopedia Online (GAMEO) is an English-language ecclesiastical online encyclopedia founded in 1996 with a focus on the Anabaptist movement and Mennonites . The project of a Mennonite encyclopedia is intended to make relevant information on history , theology , individual persons and institutions from the Anabaptist-Mennonite area available to a larger audience. The offer can be used free of charge.

The project was founded in 1996 under the name Canadian Mennonite Encyclopedia Online by the Historical Society of the Canadian Mennonites. Since 2005, the historical commissions of the American Mennonite Brethren and the US Mennonite Church have also been involved in the project. In the same year the encyclopedia was renamed accordingly. In 2006 the Mennonite Central Committee was added, and in 2007 the Mennonite World Conference . In addition to a management board with representatives from the institutions participating in the project, there is a Canadian and a US editorial group. Most of the work on the articles is done by volunteers.

The article in the online encyclopedia go in large part to revised articles of the mid-20th century in North America appeared Mennonite Encyclopedia and Article of which appeared in the first half of the 20th century in four volumes in Germany Mennonite lexicon back. As of February 2009, the encyclopedia contained more than 14,000 articles.
