Globish is a constructed language based on English . The name is a neologism from the words Global and English . This is a very simplified form of the English language. Her vocabulary is based on around 1500 words .

In contrast to Basic English , Simplified English and Special English , it is not formalized and is based solely on collaborative development and further development. Because of this, it is often difficult to say whether or not a specific example of the English language can be considered Globish.

Usage and alternatives

Globish is used more and more as part of a simple understanding within international communication. Globish was specially designed for use in the global economic sector. Above all, it enables easy communication between conversation partners for whom English is a foreign language. Globish builds on level B1 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages, contains many internationalisms and dispenses with idioms and empty phrases.

Attempts to unify Globish

Efforts have already been made to standardize Globish. This includes:

  1. A subset of 1500 words that are easy to write and speak was proposed by Madhukar Gogate in 1998.
  2. A small subset of 1,500 words, but written and spoken in the usual way, was introduced in the 2004 textbook Parlez Globish by Jean-Paul Nerrière and is intended to help French learn English.
