The Glockengasse is a historic alley in Erfurt's Andreasviertel .

history

The Glockengasse was first mentioned in 1493 as Blidegasse . The Bliedenhof used to be there , the location of the Bliden , the throwing machines of that time for throwing stones or fires at enemies. With the invention of gunpowder and firearms, the Bliedenhof was no longer needed and therefore partially sold to the Jewish community in 1375 to expand the Jewish cemetery. From 1510, the street was also partly referred to as Hondegasse or Hundgasse . In 1848 the residents applied to the magistrate to rename it to Glockengasse, after a bell foundry that was mentioned in the Verrechtsbuch in 1774.

Development

The alley is built on with numerous small half-timbered houses, most of which have been extensively renovated today. Gaps were closed with new buildings and a playground. The entire ensemble is now a listed building.
