The Gloster , also Gloster 69 , is a dessert fruit variety from the cultivated apple . It was bred in 1951 at the fruit growing research institute in Jork / Altes Land and has since found widespread use in commercial cultivation, as it meets the demands of storage and transportability.

This variety was named Gloster 69 because it was first marketed in 1969.

The tree has few special requirements. Only a deep soil is required for a high-yield cultivation. The flowers and wood are not very sensitive to frost. The fruits hang individually and are windproof. However, there should be an adequate water supply. Gloster is prone to fire blight and moderately to highly susceptible to apple scab .

Gloster is an apple variety with green-yellowish, juicy pulp and a sour taste. Its body color changes to purple. The lenticels are used as a distinguishing mark .

Flowering begins as early as the beginning of May. It is essential to thin out the apples. It is ready to be picked from the end of September. If stored for too long, the variety has a tendency to core rot .

In the wholesale trade, this apple variety is practically no longer of any importance, but it is not infrequently sold in organic stores .
