Glykera
Glycera was a famous from Athens originating hetaera the second half of v 4th century. Chr.
After the death of Pythionike (between 329 BC and 324 BC ), Harpalus , the administrator of Babylon appointed by Alexander the Great , brought them to Tarsus . Here he kept Glykera at the expense of the state treasury. He ordered royal honors for them, which led to ridicule and resentment among the Greeks. Through their mediation, Harpalus sent grain to Athens, which in return earned him Athenian citizenship. Glykera accompanied Harpalus on his escape from Alexander returning from India to Athens. There she stayed, even after Harpalus had to leave the city, and allegedly became the lover of the poet Menander .
