Alexander train

  • During his campaign in what is now Afghanistan, Alexander the Great founds three cities named after him Alexandreia (today: Kandahar , Ghazni and Tscharikar in the Hindu Kush ).
  • Alexander conquers Bactria and moves into its capital Bactra ; he installs Artabazos as governor. Alexander's opponent Bessus has meanwhile fled further north.
  • June 1st : After the companions of Bessus mutinied against him and handed him over to Alexander the Great, he left him in Bactria because of the murder of Darius III. mutilate and crucify.
  • Alexander the Great conquers Samarkand . Finally he reached the Jaxartes (Syr Darja), where he had Alexandria eschata, the "most distant Alexandria" (today Khujand ) built as the furthest north-eastern outpost of his empire.
  • July: The Bactrian captain Spitamenes rebels against the Macedonian occupation; A protracted guerrilla war by Alexander against the rebels in Bactria and Sogdia ensues. A Macedonian army under Pharnuches is wiped out.

Western Mediterranean

  • The Romans, under the consuls L. Aemilius Mamercinus Privernas and C. Plautius Decianus, subjugated the Volscian city of Privernum , which became civitas sine suffragio (city without the right to vote).
