Events / developments
- The Roman Empire expands to the east and subjugates Macedonia , among other things . In the Third Punic War , the rival great power Carthage is defeated in 146 BC. Chr. Trounced. In the north, however, the Roman army suffered a defeat against the Cimbri .
- The Parthian Empire conquered large parts of Persia and Mesopotamia and became a great power.
- The Chinese emperor Wu ( Han dynasty ) raised Confucianism to the doctrine of the state and began the great Chinese expansion. His government was the height of Chinese power until the turn of the century.
- The Shunga dynasty rules in northern India .
- The Milindapanha , the recording of a dialogue between the Hellenistic King Menander and the Buddhist monk and scholar Nagasena, was created in north-western India . This script, regarded as a semi-canonical work in Buddhism , is considered to be one of the earliest evidence of the encounter between a European culture and the teachings of the Buddha.
