- 107 BC BC : Battle of Agen : the Cimbri and Teutons defeat the Romans under Lucius Cassius Longinus on the Italian border.
- October 6 , 105 BC BC : Battle of Arausio : the Romans lose again against the Cimbri and Teutons.
- 104 BC Chr . : Due to the many defeats and the lack of soldiers, the Roman consul Gaius Marius carries out a comprehensive army reform. The militia army becomes a vigorous professional army. The problem of caring for the veterans remains unsolved. This is done by the general to whom the soldiers are soon more connected than to the empire.
