Alexander train

  • Alexander the Great's campaign in India : from Arachosia (today: Afghanistan ) he turns east over the Chaiber Pass to the Indus , where he takes the fortress of Aornos. While he incorporated the area west of the river as the province of Gandhara into his kingdom and subordinated Nikanor , he moved across the river to Taxila (near today's Islamabad ), where he was received by King Omphis .
  • In Taxila Alexander called on the ruler of the Punjab into submission on what Poros , King of Pauravas denied. Alexander declares war on this and in May wins the Battle of the Hydaspes near Nikaia am Hydaspes . Alexander's horse Bucephalus is said to have died, who then founded the city of Bucephala . Alexander moves further east, but his troops refuse to follow him in July on the Hyphasis , the easternmost river of the Panjab, so that he has to turn back to Bukephala.
  • Starting in November, the army moves from Bukephala, partly in a fleet of 800 ships, down the Hydaspes to the south, partly on foot along the bank. On the way to the Indian Ocean they are constantly attacked by hostile tribes, with Alexander being critically injured.
