The Eastern Hemisphere 323 BC Chr.
  • February: Alexander the Great returns to Babylon from Ekbatana . Here he is preparing a campaign on the Arabian Peninsula and possibly against Carthage .
  • May: Alexander declares his friend and likely lover Hephaestion, who died in autumn, a demigod and organizes extensive celebrations on this occasion. At the end of the month he becomes seriously ill.
  • After Alexander the Great died in Babylon on June 10th at the age of 33, the battle for the Alexander Empire among his successors (" Diadochi ") ensued . The army determines Alexander's mentally ill half-brother Philip III. Arrhidaios as the new king; Perdiccas first officiated as imperial administrator ("Chiliarch") , who after the birth of Alexander IV. Aigos , a posthumous son of Alexander the great, had him proclaimed king. Meleager stands up against Perdiccas, but he is killed on the orders of Perdiccas.
  • Babylonian imperial order : While the unity of the empire is preserved, certain areas of the empire are assigned for administration. Later there was power struggle among them and four Diadochian empires emerged from the Macedonian conquests.
  • Perdiccas has Kynane , a half-sister of Alexander the Great, killed because her plan to bring her daughter Eurydice to King Philip III. Marrying Arrhidaios goes against Perdiccas's power plans. Perdiccas himself marries Nikea , the daughter of Antipater .
  • Lamish War : Athens uses the uncertainty after the death of Alexander to revolt against Macedonian rule; Spokesmen against the Macedonians are Leosthenes , Demosthenes and Hypereides . Aitolians, Lokrians, Phokers and Dorians join them. The Athenians can occupy Thermopylae and defeat the Boeotians at Plataiai . Antipater, representative of Macedonian power in Greece, is trapped in Lamia . Leosthenes dies before Lamia at the end of the year.
