Empire of Alexander the Great
- First diadoch war broke out (until 320 ): The imperial administrator Perdiccas and his general Eumenes were faced with an opposition from Antipater (in Macedonia and Greece ), Krateros (Macedonia), Antigonos (in Phrygia ) and Ptolemy (in Egypt ). While Eumenes turns against Krateros in Asia Minor and overcomes and kills him in the Battle of the Hellespont , Perdiccas marches into Egypt. But it fails in the spring of 320 BC. When he tries to cross the Nile and is then murdered by his own people.
Western Mediterranean
- Humiliating defeat of the Roman army against the Samnites in the battle of the Kaudin passes : Rome has to provide hostages, the army may only withdraw after disparaging treatment ("subjugation"). The first phase of the Second Samnite War ends and Rome has to give up its colonies of Fregellae and Cales.
