Gnaeus Acerronius Proculus

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Gnaeus Acerronius Proculus was a Roman senator who lived in the 1st century. His exact date of birth and death are not known.

He was perhaps the descendant of a Gnaeus Acerronius who lived in 71 BC. Is mentioned several times by Cicero in his defense speech "Pro M. Tullio". The paternity of an Acerronia Polla, a close confidante of Iulia Agrippina , who was mistaken for Nero's mother in 59 and murdered, appears to be equally possible .

What is certain is that Gnaeus Acerronius Proculus, together with Gaius Petronius Pontius Nigrinus , exercised the office of ordinary consul and terminated it regularly.

Probably around the year 45 it was not he himself, as originally assumed, but his son of the same name who took office as proconsul in the senatorial province of Achaea .
