Goat Island is a small island in the Auckland region with an area of about one hectare. It is located just off the coast of New Zealand's North Island, northeast of Warkworth . The island of Little Barrier Iceland is located northeast in the sea about 25 kilometers.
The island is part of the Goat Island Marine Reserve , a 5.24 square kilometer marine reserve that extends from Cape Rodney to Okakari point. It was founded in 1975 and opened in 1977. It is used annually by more than 300,000 visitors for snorkeling and scuba diving .
