history

Today's village emerged from the two districts Overlingen (courtyard no. 1–3) and Gockenholz (no. 4–7). The oldest written mention of Gockenholz comes from the year 1235 and refers to the foundation of the Wienhausen monastery . Duke Otto gave the Countess Palatine Agnes von Landsberg to replace the Altencelle Castle, which she had left to him, a. a. four courtyards in "Gakenholte". The certificate says:

Otto Puer Agneti Palatinae per castro cell unam fartaginem in salina Lüneburg, & molendinum in Lachtenhusen, & quatuor domos in Gakenholte dat, mox monasterio Winhusano collatas.

Translated: "... resigned ourselves and left us and our heirs forever, the church in Wienhausen, which she built at her own expense, a pan on the saltworks in Lüneburg and a mill in Lachtehausen and four houses in Gockenholz, with all associated rights and usage ... "

The name Gockenholz comes from Germanic and means something like "cuckoo forest". As early as the Bronze Age before 1800 BC The area was settled, as around 20 Bronze Age barrows were found from Heideeck to Gockenholz.

With a deed dated September 17, 1241, Bishop Konrad II transferred the tithe in Gakenholte to the Wienhausen monastery , which it had bought from knight Jordan von Ethzienrod, who resigned the tithe to the brothers Luthard and Luthard von Meinersen, who gave it back to the bishop.

1302 ( January. E. Epy. Dom. Phiph. Si. ) States in a document: "Jllustris domina Mechthildis duxissa de Wenden dedit allodium minus cum tol [a] decima in Gakenholte et minutis decimis in Hauekorst in Noua Jndagine et duobus eklagis, ymaginem beate virginis argenteam et alia plura clenodia. ”With a document dated September 20, 1317, the brothers Conrad and Otto von Marenholtz allowed Duke Otto of Braunschweig and Lüneburg to redeem the bailiwick over 5 farms in Gockenholz.

On January 1, 1973 Gockenholz was incorporated into the municipality of Lachendorf.

In 2010 Gockenholz celebrated its 775th anniversary with four village events.

  8. The Gockenholz volunteer fire brigade was founded in 1953 as one of the youngest volunteer fire brigades in the Lachendorf community. At the beginning of June 1953, the community fathers of Gockenholz had a used engine tip (Flader-TS 800) demonstrated to them in the presence of the fire fighters, which had been used to fight fires in Berlin during the war. After the deployment and the demonstration had turned out to be everyone's satisfaction, the municipal council decided in its meeting on June 30, 1953 to purchase the approximately 2000 D-Mark (DM) (equivalent to 1020 euros) expensive device including suction and Pressure hoses. A little later the motorized sprayer was ready for use in Gockenholz. (Blazek: p. 49 ff.)
