Goethe house in Tübingen

The Goethe House in Tübingen is an octagonal garden house located to the west of the old town and the Hohentübingen Castle on the ridge of the Schlossberg, which got its common name after a visit by Goethe on a walk on September 7, 1797 . At the time, Goethe visited his publisher Johann Friedrich Cotta in Tübingen.

The house was bought by an innkeeper in 1870 and crowned with battlements. The battlements were removed again in the first half of the 20th century. In 1957, the city of Tübingen acquired the property in order to protect it from intended rebuilding and renovated it in 1961, during which it was fundamentally redesigned. Contrary to the documented earlier conditions, the structural framework has now been exposed. The Goethe House was later declared a monument.

Another building known as the Goethe House is on the Kickelhahn near Ilmenau .
