Gographer
The Gograf (zu Gau ) was the judge in the Gogerichts district.
Gogerichten was first mentioned in a document in the 12th century. According to the Sachsenspiegel from around 1230, the Gograf (gogreve) is a judge of a subdistrict of the county and subordinate to the count. He judges immediately in the case of the handicapped act and is elected either on a case-by-case basis or for a certain period of time by the residents of the judicial district. The Count's Court , which is attended by all farmers in the judicial district , takes place every six weeks.
The North German Gograph corresponds to the Hessian and Southwest German Zentgraf , the Gogericht the Zentgericht .
Analogy in English
The Gografen corresponded in Old English of scir-gerefa = the count of a Shire (Gaus). The current title of sheriff arose from this title .
