Gola (people)
The Gola or Gula are an indigenous people who live in western Liberia and southeastern Sierra Leone .
The Gola language belongs to the southern branch of the West Atlantic language family .
The name Gola is the source for the term Gullah . It refers to a Creole language spoken among African Americans on the islands and coastal regions of Georgia and South Carolina in the southeastern United States .
Charles Taylor , who ruled Liberia from 1997 to 2003, was of Gola and American Liberian descent.
