The Gold Coast Jamboree was an American country show broadcast by WMIE of Miami , Florida .

history

The Gold Coast Jamboree started in the summer of 1956. It was produced by Ben Yearty and featured the country stars Wesley & Marilyn Tuttle from the start . Tuttle also took on the role of director. The Gold Coast Jamboree was held every Saturday evening from 8 p.m. to midnight at the Hialeah City Auditorium in Hialeah, a suburb of Miami, and broadcast live on WMIE from 10 p.m. In the fall of 1957, however, the Gold Coast Jamboree was discontinued; WMIE is now a Christian broadcaster and denies having ever broadcast such a program. According to WMIE, the station was temporarily licensed in Miami, but would have always broadcast in Cocoa, Florida. In fact, WMIE was very popular in Miami in the 1950s with DJs like Cracker Jim Brooks and Uncle Wade.

The Gold Coast Jamborees ensemble was very much influenced by country musicians like Jimmy Hartley, Ann Clark and the Dixie Darlings. The only rockabilly group on the show were Tommy Spurlin and his Southern Boys, who were signed to Perfect Records .

The local counterpart was WMIL's Old South Jamboree .
