Golden Week (People's Republic of China)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Golden Week ( Chinese  黄金 周 , Pinyin Huángjīn Zhōu ) includes three non-working weeks in the People's Republic of China :

  • the spring festival in January or February,
  • formerly the week of work on May 1st (Labor Day Golden Week), but from 2008 it was reduced to May 1st and
  • the National Day Golden Week beginning on October 1st .

These national holidays were introduced in 1999 by the Chinese government of the People's Republic to revitalize the domestic market for tourism, raise the general standard of living and enable long-distance visits to relatives. Just like the Japanese Golden Week , these are an intense travel time in the People's Republic.
