The Golden Gate of the Ecliptic has always been an asterism in the constellation Taurus . The star constellation is formed on both sides of the ecliptic , similar to the type of a gate , by the two prominent open star clusters, the Pleiades and the Hyades .

Along the ecliptic as the apparent path of the sun in the sky, the planets also migrate regularly through this gate, as their orbital planes are only slightly inclined to the orbital plane of the earth . Only the orbit of the moon deviates more strongly from it, so that the earth companion regularly orbits the constellation.

Historical

From about 4000 to 1500 BC Chr. Was also the vernal equinox during his walk along the ecliptic due to the precession of the Earth's axis, in the constellation Taurus and gave him such a special meaning.

The approximately 4500 year old limestone tablet from the Neolithic temple of Tal-Qadi on Malta probably shows the golden gate of the ecliptic in its three middle angular segments.
