The Golden Gate of Kiev ( Ukrainian Золоті ворота Soloti worota ) is a historic, fortified city gate in Kiev , the capital of Ukraine .

The gate was built on the orders of the Kiev Grand Duke Yaroslav the Wise from 1017 to 1024. The Golden Gate of Constantinople served as a pattern . In 1240 it was damaged by the Mongol troops of Batu Khan . The gate remained the main entrance to the city until the 18th century and is often used for ceremonial purposes.

In 1832 the remains of the gate were reconstructed. Further reconstruction work was carried out in the 1970s, when the new, reconstructed gate was built on the remains of the gate. The new gate, which houses a museum, opened in 1982 to mark the 1,500th anniversary of Kiev.
