Goldmillion was a quiz show as a follow-up to the ZDF show The Great Price . It was developed by Kurt Felix , broadcast from 1994 to 1995 and moderated by Wolfgang Lippert ; Günther Jauch took his place once .

history

Goldmillion aired from January 22, 1994 to August 24, 1995. As the interim successor to the very popular quiz show Der Große Preis , Goldmillion also ran in favor of the television lottery Aktion Sorgekind (now Aktion Mensch ).

The quiz show was initially a 105-minute Saturday evening show with over 10 million viewers at the beginning and later became a 60-minute Thursday evening show with only 1.7 million viewers due to insufficient audience ratings. There has been much public debate and blame. Several concept changes did not prevent the program from being discontinued after around 20 months, although four more episodes were to be produced.

procedure

Three candidates competed against each other in several rounds, with the aim of winning a lot of gold coins worth DM 200 each. In contrast to the previous program, where candidates were also asked about their specialist knowledge, there were more everyday questions and additional action games. The winner was finally guided through a labyrinth by a viewer calling from home, for example. If the candidate crossed the finish line, the caller won a car and the candidate won the gold coins earned by everyone. There were also recordings through which a few television viewers found out live that they had just become a millionaire.
