The goldsmith 8-10 is a listed former department store in Eisenach in Thuringia . It is the only complete building in the purely Bauhaus style in the city of Eisenach.

history

The building was built in 1929/30 on behalf of the Eisenacher Konsumverein in the western Goldschmiedenstrasse not far from the Eisenacher Markt according to a design by the Eisenach architect Alfred Schmidt in the Bauhaus style. The consumer association's department store offered colonial and footwear, textiles and household items until the 1960s . On 20 March 1967 after renovation and refurbishment which opened consumption -Kinderkaufhaus 'Titch', which until 31 December 1992 had stock. In 1980 the house was listed for the first time and in 2006 it was registered as a cultural monument in the monuments book of the Free State of Thuringia. The building has been empty since the 1990s and has been for sale since 2014.

architecture

The building has a reinforced concrete structure with five floors, with the top floor being put on like a pulpit. The spacious staircase is striking. Two elevators, an open safe and Bauhaus door handles have been preserved in the original from the construction period. From the upper floor there is a view of the Eisenacher Südviertel .
