  • The listed villa colony Südviertel in the south of Eisenach is one of the large contiguous villa areas in Germany, which was created between 1862 and the First World War . At that time, Eisenach was a magnet for wealthy privy councilors, factory owners and the military, as well as pensioners and commoners in the region because of the beautiful scenic location on the Thuringian Forest , the historic Wartburg and the spa. More than 100 mostly stately villas in different architectural styles were built. The southern quarter includes the colonies of Predigerhöhe, Marienhöhe, Karthäuserhöhe, Mariental as well as areas at the rhododendron garden and the Waldschänke, the area below the Wartburg.
