The Kao Germany GmbH (until 2011: KPSS-Kao Professional Salon Services GmbH), Darmstadt , is a group of companies which distributes its haircare and -kosmetikprodukte over 22 subsidiaries and more distributors, the most important sales markets in Germany , USA and the UK are . Their most famous brand is Goldwell.
The manufacturer's pink hairspray can (spray gold), which was used in many German hairdressing salons , was popular.
Company history
The German company Goldwell was founded after the Second World War by the then 27-year-old businessman Hans Erich Dotter (* February 12, 1920 - August 10, 2012) in Darmstadt and is also based there. In 1989 Goldwell became part of the Japanese cosmetics company Kaō . Goldwell then sold production to Reichardt, Erzhausen, and outsourced the logistics to EDS (European Distribution Services) Biebesheim (a 40/60% joint venture with GL Kayser ). After acquiring the KMS California brand, Goldwell GmbH changed its name to KPSS-Kao Professional Salon Services GmbH. Production in Eberstadt was bought back on July 1, 2009 by the sister company Kao Corporation from Reichardt and manufactures products for Kao group companies. Another sister company is Guhl Ikebana GmbH (Kao Brands Germany), Griesheim.
The company had 1,418 employees worldwide in 2010 and the consolidated sales of Kao Germany GmbH amounted to € 261 million in 2012 (€ 324 million in 2011). The Goldwell brand accounted for € 283 million, including sales of the Kao sales company, which is not part of the group.
In Germany, the Goldwell and KMS California brands are represented by Kao Germany GmbH in Darmstadt.
