Golestan-e-Honar ( Persian گلستان هنر Golestan-e-Honar , [ golɛstɑn ɛ honæɾ ]) is a book written by Ahmad Monschi Ghomi . It is one of the few sources that provides valuable information on calligraphers , painters, and the history of book making from the late Timurid era to the mid Safavid era in Persia . The book provides first-hand information about some of the artists and art patrons with whom the author and his family members have had contact. The book was written in the Safavid era in 1598. In 1607 another edition of the book was published with some deletions and additions to the earlier edition. Golestan-e-Honar introduces the artists whom the author knew personally or about whom he knew something through other people he knew. Therefore, the book is one of the main sources for study and research on the arts and artists in the Safavid era. The author used poems by famous lyricists in all sections of the book.

Golestan-e-Honar has five parts:

  • Part one: About the Thuluth script and its origin as well as the biography of 58 Thuluth masters
  • Part two: About the Taliq calligraphy and biographies of 38 Taliq masters
  • Part three: About the Nastaʿlīq calligraphers and biography of 67 Nastaʿlīq masters
  • Part four: the biography of 41 master painters
  • Last part: About table, illuminated manuscript , paints, ink making as well as other library utensils and lapis lazuli washing
