Life

Ghazi Ahmad was born in 1547 in Qom, which was an important center for theologians and scholars at the time. When he was 11 years old, he moved to Mashhad in the east with his father and spent 20 years there. With the support of Sultan Abolfath Ebrahim Mirza, he trained up to the age of 31 with well-known masters such as Shah Mohammad Neyschaburi, Mir Ahmad Maschhadi and Malek Deylami . Ghazi Ahmad spent his youth in the artistic circle of the Ebrahim Mirzas court. Ebrahim Mirza was an educated man in the arts and sciences, and several prominent poets , calligraphers, and painters worked in his library . Ghazi Ahmad also had contact with many painters and calligraphers outside of Ebrahim Mirza's library and therefore he was able to tell many details about the life of the artists in the Safavid era. His work, Golestan-e-Honar , introduces artists whom the author knew personally or about whom he knew something through other people he knew. He also has other books such as Cholassat ot-Tawarich , Majma osh-Shoara and Managheb of-Fozala . His book, Cholassat ot-Tawarich, is the story of the Safavid dynasty from Safi ad-Din Ardabili to the early days of Abbas I. In 1599, Abbas I became angry with him and ordered his dismissal. After his release he went back to Qom. In 1607 he visited Molana Mohammad Amir Aghili Rostamdari Ardebili, who was a well-known calligrapher at the time. Ghazi Ahmad wrote about him in Golestan-e-Honar.
