Ahmad Mashhadi

Ahmad Mashhadi ( Mīr Aḥmad al-Ḥusaynī Mashhadī ; listen ? / I PersianAudio file / audio sample [ æhmæd ɛ mæʃhædi ] احمد مشهدی; * unknown; † 1578 in Masandaran ), also known as Mir Sayyid Ahmad , was an important calligrapher of the Nastaliq script in the 16th century and came from Mashhad . He was also a poet . Some of his poems still exist in the original.

Life

Mashhadi learned the art of calligraphy from Mir Ali Heravi in Herat . After the Scheibanid conquest of the city, they both moved to Bukhara . After Heravi's death, Mashhadi worked as a scribe in the library of Abd ol-Asis Chan Osbak for some time . After Abd ol-Asis Chan's death, he returned home. There he again worked as a clerk in the court of Tahmasp I and his successor Ismail II. He died in Masandaran in 1578.
