In his youth he was the writer of orders and regulations for the governor of Herats. He then began to work as a calligrapher at the court of Soltan Hosseyn Bayqara . During this time Heravi became the protégé of Karim od-Din Habibollah Savoji. after the murder of Habibollah, when Sam Mirsa Safawi , the brother of Tahmasp I , was the governor of Khorassan , Mir Ali Heravi had been in Herat for three years until 1528. In 1528 Obeyd Chan conquered Herat for a short time and took Mir Ali Heravi to Bukhara with and employed him as the scribe and calligraphy teacher of his son, Abd ol-Asis Chan. Mir Ali Heravi lived in Bukhara for 16 years and was not allowed to leave the city. He died in Bukhara in 1544.

Because of the homesickness and the compulsory emigration to Bukhara and the distance from the family, Heravi lived in this city in a state of depression and sadness.

Heravi was the student of Seyn od-Din Mohammad, who himself had learned calligraphy from Soltan Ali Maschhadi .
