The Gulf of Izmir ( Turkish İzmir Körfezi ), also Gulf of Smyrna , is a gulf in the Aegean Sea and in front of the Turkish city ​​of Izmir in the west or north-west .

The Gulf of Izmir is approximately 32 km long and up to 16 km wide. Its entrance is about 30 km south of the Greek island of Lesbos between the city and peninsula of Karaburun in the west and Foça , the ancient Phocea in the east. The (south) east end is enclosed by the city of Izmir.

In addition to the port of Izmir, the second largest in the country, there are anchorages throughout the golf course. Most important of the smaller cities on the Gulf is Urla .
