The Rotho Kunststoff AG is in the development, production, procurement and distribution of plastic products operating Swiss group of companies headquartered in Würenlingen in canton Aargau . Rotho is one of the largest and best-known brand manufacturers of plastic consumer goods in Europe. The company is wholly family owned. The company name (company) originated from the name of the company founder Robert Thoma. Rotho employs almost 400 people, most of them at the Würenlingen site. Winfried Köbel has been the managing director since 1996.
history
The company has its historical roots in Germany. It was founded in 1890 in Bernau -Oberlehen in the Black Forest . Originally, the company Robert Thoma & Co. manufactured kitchen and household products made of wood such as clothespins , meat tenderizers and mousetraps . In 1955 a branch was added in nearby St. Blasien , where plastics processing began. From 1981 the focus was increasingly placed on plastic housewares. In 1985, a manufacturer of baby products in Saarland was taken over; this range has since been expanded. In 1997 the first Swiss production site was set up in Würenlingen, and a second production site went into operation here as early as 2001. Since then, Rotho has increasingly used the Swiss Made seal of origin . Rotho Kunststofftechnik GmbH in St. Blasien, which specializes in large products up to 8 kg in weight, was completely spun off from the Swiss Rotho Group after an initial bankruptcy in 2004; since then it has belonged to the German group Metak-KWM-Rotho and again filed for bankruptcy in September 2009, but this has no influence on the Swiss Rotho group due to the fact that it is not a member. In 2005 Rotho increased the production capacity in Würenlingen again. In 2007 the new logistics center opened in Würenlingen.

In addition to the main company Rotho Kunststoff AG, the Rotho Group also includes the two legally independent German sister companies Rotho Kunststoff GmbH in Görwihl (Waldshut district, Baden-Württemberg) and Rotho Baby Design GmbH with legal headquarters in St. Blasien (also Waldshut district) and a central sales office in Wadern-Nunkirchen (Merzig-Wadern district, Saarland).
The Rotho Kunststoff AG produces both at their headquarters and at its sister company Rotho Kunststoff GmbH in Görwihl and the independent contractor Sundis SA in French Sars-et-Rosières ( Nord , on the border with Belgium). The Rotho range is one of the most extensive in the industry and includes products for the kitchen, laundry, office, storage, cleaning and waste sectors. Due to the price war in this market, Rotho is increasingly positioning itself in the segment of higher quality, value and design-oriented products. In the office range, Rotho has introduced products made of wood-plastic composite materials under the name “Greenline” , which consist of a mixture of local wood fibers and recycled polypropylene . Rotho is one of the most innovative companies in the industry; 30 to 50 new products are developed every year. The company attaches particular importance to an above-average intensive sales promotion concept directly at the point of sale in retail. Worldwide sales are carried out via our own logistics center, also located in Würenlingen, which is one of the most modern in Europe. Rotho is a supplier to most of the major retail chains in Europe. Rotho has been certified according to the ISO 9001 quality management standard since 1996 .
The Rotho Baby Design GmbH sells a specially made for the needs of babies and young children range from three key segments: nursing, nutrition, safety, games and accessories. The products of the care line come exclusively from German manufacture, products of the other lines are also manufactured abroad. Sales channels in the German-speaking area are baby goods retailers, drugstores, hypermarkets and mail order companies, but sales are also carried out worldwide via cooperation partners. Rotho Babydesign's own brands are playgro, tommee tippee and sangenic. In addition, licensed third-party brands such as Winnie the Pooh and others are sold.
