The Gulf of Mannar is a bay in the Indian Ocean between India and Sri Lanka .

It is part of the Lakkadive Sea . In the north, the gulf is bounded by the island of Pamban and the so-called Adam's Bridge , a chain of small islands between India and Sri Lanka, as well as by the Palk Strait to the north . To the east is the Bay of Bengal . In the south the gulf merges into the open Indian Ocean.
