The Gulf of Martaban is an inlet in the Andaman Sea and is located in the southern part of Myanmar .

The gulf is named after the port city of Mottama , which used to be called Martaban . The Salween , Sittaung and Yangon rivers , an estuary of the Irrawaddy , flow into the Gulf of Martaban.

There is a strong tidal range in the gulf . The stroke moves between 4 and 7 meters and the highest stroke takes place at Elephant Point in the west of the Gulf. During the spring season, the stroke is about 6.6 meters, which extends over an area of ​​45,000 km² and is considered the strongest tidal range on earth. The lowest stroke averages 2.98 m over an area of ​​over 15,000 km². The entire hub covers a coastline of around 150 km.
