The Gosling Islands are a dispersed group of islands and cliff rocks in the archipelago of the Southern Orkney Islands . They are located immediately south and west of Meier Point off the south coast of Coronation Island .
The Norwegian whaling captain Petter Sørlle roughly mapped them during his visit to the South Orkney Islands from 1912 to 1913. He first named them Gestlingen , later corrected this to Gjeslingene (Norwegian for goose chicks ). The translation of this name into English by the UK Antarctic Place-Names Committee in 1955 is now considered established.
