Gottfried II. (Perche)
Geoffroy II. (Ger. Gottfried , Eng. Geoffrey , † October 1100 ) was from 1060 to 1090 Count of Mortagne and Lord of Nogent , and from 1090 to 1100 Count of Le Perche .
Life
Geoffroy was a son of Rotrou II , Count of Mortagne and Vice-Count of Châteaudun , Lord of Nogent, and Adelise de Bellême, a daughter of Guérin de Domfront. He is mentioned in a document from his father in 1060 with his brothers Hugues, Rotrou and Fulcois. In 1066 he took part in the Norman conquest of England and fought at the Battle of Hastings . He is one of the 15 " proven companions " of William the Conqueror and was rewarded with domains in England by the new king.
In 1080 he followed his father in Mortagne and Nogent, while his younger brother received the vice-county of Châteaudun. Rotrou, the third brother, acquired the dominion of Montfort-le-Rotrou through marriage .
With his two brothers he attacked the domains of Robert de Bellême , Lord of Bellême and Alençon and plundered them. He later tried a repetition with the help of Élie de la Flèche , but failed. In 1090 he took on the title "Count of Perche" and thereby claimed to be superior to the rival Count of Perche-Gouët from the Gouët family .
Towards the end of his life he devoted himself to religious foundations and created the first leper colony in Perche.
