Gottfried Sachs

Gottfried Sachs (* 1939 ) is a German aerospace engineer.

Life path

Sachs studied mechanical engineering with a focus on flight technology at the Technical University of Darmstadt and then worked in research. In 1977 he became professor for flight mechanics and flight control at the University of the Federal Armed Forces in Munich and director of the institute for system dynamics and flight mechanics there. In 1983 he moved to the Technical University of Munich as a professor , where he became director of the Institute for Aerospace. In 2006 he retired.

From 1989 to 2003, Sachs was responsible for the special research area Transatmospheric Flight Systems of the German Research Foundation . In 1992 he was a co-founder of the Bavarian Research Association for Technical and Scientific High-Performance Computing. From 2000 to 2003 he was the group spokesman for the special research areas for research into the fundamentals of future space transport systems (Aachen / Munich / Stuttgart).

Sachs was Vice President of the Bavarian Academy of Sciences , of which he has been a member since 2000. He is also a member u. a. the German Academy of Science and Engineering , the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (Fellow), the German Aerospace Society and the German Aerospace Center . Sachs is editor of the magazine for flight science and space research .
