Gottfried Waelchli

Gottfried Wälchli (* 1899 in Olten ; † 1960 ibid) was a Swiss teacher , art historian and biographer who researched the life and works of Martin Disteli and Frank Buchser for years .

life and work

Gottfried Wälchli grew up as the son of a railroad worker with his brother in Olten. After training as a primary school teacher and studying in Dijon and Zurich , he became a doctor of German studies .

In addition to his work as a teacher at the secondary and district school and later at the Progymnasium Olten, he worked as a researcher on the biography and work of the artists Martin Disteli and Frank Buchser. In doing so, Wälchli was supported by the Olten politician Hugo Dietschi. Wälchli associated with many artists of his time and created a patronage for artists and art in Olten with art-interested industrialists and collectors .

In 1928 Wälchli married the artist Jeanne Roggli, with whom he had a daughter and a son.
