Gottlieb Rohner

Gottlieb Rohner (born June 19, 1814 in Herisau , † December 19, 1891 in Trogen ) was a Swiss agricultural pioneer .

Rohner was a teacher until 1847 and then a farmer and innkeeper in Herisau until 1879 . In 1863 he added a cheese dairy and a pig farm to his business , followed by a seed school for fruit trees . In 1864 Rohner and Emanuel Meyer were one of the initiators of a cantonal cattle show and one of the founders of the Herisau agricultural and alpine farming association , of which he was president from 1869 to 1878. He was 1848-1853 Municipality captain of Herisau, 1853-1857 country Ensign , 1857-1859 Ausserrhoden governor and from 1859 to 1876 Chief Justice and 1864-1876 Vice President of the High Court. As a member of the cantonal road commission and from 1853 to 1877 as a road inspector, Rohner made a contribution to the expansion of the roads.

He is considered a pioneer of modern agricultural production methods.
