history

Gutwald and Tiemann, both born in 1993, began as classmates of a junior high school in Wolfratshausen with the songwriting . In 2008/2009 both played in a schoolgirl band called Floorplot , from 2009 they appeared as a duo under the name Tuó. The two musicians were discovered by Amadeus Böhm , who signed them to his label Flowerstreet Records and supported them with guitar during live performances. The band name was derived from the first letters of "Tasmin and Oda" with acute on the last letter.

The duo first appeared in Munich clubs, for example in the “ Atomic Café ”, or as street musicians , played in the S-Bahn or in the English Garden . In 2009, they appeared as the opening act for Mumford & Sons and The Dodos , among others, and in the fall of that year the first music video for the song Walk with Me was produced. A year later, in February, the debut EP Walk on Silence was released with eight titles and the specialist press became aware of the two newcomers . The Ox-Fanzine noted : “Every single song exudes an unbelievable intensity, even though the two young women Tasmin Gutwald and Oda Tiemann are only 16 years old. The album was not produced with great effort [...] and yet it seems to be huge and your two voices harmonize very well with the instruments on offer . ”The music magazine In-Your-Face.de rated the EP with the words: “Walking On Silence is an unbelievably likeable and loving album, which lets a lot of musical, and above all songwriting, quality shine through and which actually doesn't have a single hangover, but with the title track (Silence) it has almost a small hit to offer. “In the same year, the BR magazine Startrampe included the duo in its 6th season (September to December 2010) and in 2011 ensured that both of them took part in the New Music Award competition at the Berlin Music Week in the Admiralspalast .

Following a short tour of Germany, including as the opening act for Sportfreunde Stiller at Circus Krone in October 2010, the debut album Tales of Life was released on December 7, 2012 , which, due to the size of the debut EP, was also called " second album “was mentioned. It was sold out before it appeared and had to be re-pressed. The sound of the music was enhanced on the album through the use of accompanying musicians , as well as at the release party in the Haidhauser Kulturzentrum Einstein. The webzine RockTimes reviewed, among other things: “On Tales Of Life there is not a composition that is not interesting. Both the fast-paced tracks and the ballads shine in a special light and the duo can also sing excellently. With fine arrangements, Tuó enchants the four walls at home with graceful sounds. ".

In autumn 2013, the two musicians announced the breakup of the duo. The last concert, at which they played songs by Elektrik Kezy Mezy in addition to their own songs , took place in February 2014 in the sold out “Cord Club” in Munich. Gutwald is writing new songs and is planning a future solo career. Tiemann completed her technical college entrance qualification in Munich in 2013 at the Rainer-Werner-Fassbinder-Fachoberschule for social affairs and design in the field of design. She now appears with the guitarist and singer Sebastian Kempf as the duo Oda & Sebastian .

style

Tuó play harmonious, acoustic folk pop, which is often said to have clear hippie influences, which is also reinforced by the visual appearance of the duo - they appear hippie-typically in airy clothes and barefoot . Nevertheless, they are critical of the term “hippie” and see themselves “not as hippie girls, but as trend deniers. Anyone can do punk , but not folk. "
