The kultURKNALL benefit festival has been held every year on the last school weekend in July in the region around the Staffelsee since 1994 and has since developed into one of the most important cultural events in the area. Sometimes a music festival, sometimes an open-air theater - up to 6,000 people visit the benefit event every year. At the festivals all artists appear free of charge, and around 100 organizers and helpers work on a voluntary basis. The net proceeds of the event go to 100% in the aid projects of people Helfen eV

Menschen Helfen eV is a humanitarian association founded in 1993 with headquarters in Seehausen am Staffelsee . The purpose of the association is to support people in need. The projects are financed by donations and the net proceeds of the “kultURKNALL” and “adventspurt” series of events.

History of the club

When war broke out in the Balkans in 1991 , four acolytes from the Seehausen community carried out relief deliveries to help the affected population. Contacts were made to Zazina in Croatia , the destination of the first aid transports, through the parish of Seehausen . Due to the steadily increasing number of helpers from the beginning, the idea arose of founding a charitable association, in whose name any further aid actions should be planned and carried out.

In the years that followed, the funding of the relief campaigns was changed mainly from fundraising to fundraising events. The major cultural events, in which all those involved appear and work free of charge, have been responsible for the majority of the financing of the relief efforts since 1994 .

The first aid transport to Croatia started in March 1993 . It was used to deliver food, medicines, bandages and clothing worth 40,000 DM to those in need in Zazina . To organize the transports, the association “Menschen Helfen eV” was founded in the parish of Seehausen am Staffelsee in the following month . With the help of donations, the newly founded association was able to carry out a second aid transport in December, with the aid goods being distributed in cooperation with local charitable institutions. For the introduction of donations, the club introduced in July 1994, a first large Benefizfestival "culture popping" in the just-resolved Kemmelkaserne in Murnau by, with 16,000 DM for a "Children's Farm" in Romanian Aricesti came together. A year later, the second "kultURKNALL" festival followed, at which again 20,000 DM could be collected, which were used to build the gym of the "Ariçesti children's farm". This made the necessary initial investments for the “children's farm”, which meant that it could now raise the necessary capital for its own business operations. In July 1996, an open-air cinema on the closed federal highway 2 with its 5000 visitors and a net profit of 20,000 DM enabled the first aid transport to the Bosniak town of Gornji Vakuf in Bosnia, which was almost completely destroyed by the Bosnian war . The “kultURKNALL am See” attracted 2400 visitors in July 1997, who experienced Bavarian cabaret from Wellküren and Rock'n'Roll in front of a sunset backdrop and who financed the second transport to Bosnia with their contributions. Especially baby food and hygiene material were delivered. The benefit highlights of 1998 were called “SubkultURKNALL” in the new Murnau bypass tunnel and “kultURKNALL in the gorge”. Bands such as Ringsgwandl and Bananafishbones performed for a good cause free of charge, which, when the cash was dropped, resulted in net proceeds of 90,000 DM, which could be used to transport aid to Bosnia. A last aid transport to Bosnia was financed with the open-air theater “Scenes from a Midsummer Night's Dream ” in Seidlpark in Murnau in 1999 and the “kultURKNALL 2000 New Year's Eve Ball”.

The "kultURKNALL 850" for the opening of the Murnau pedestrian zone in July 2000 flushed the first 75,000 DM for the "Canaan" children's home in the Romanian village of Șercaia into the project budget. This was followed by the "kultURKNALL im Seidlpark" in 2001 and in 2002 the "dragon spectacle " based on the Murnau lindworm legend, the proceeds of which were used to build a new residential building for the orphans, a small hospital ward, a carpenter's workshop and a central kitchen. In 2003, the “Help People Foundation ” was founded, the interest proceeds from the financing of the care for the disabled in Făgăraş in Romania. In the same year, the tenth “kultURKNALL” at the Fiedlerspitz in Seehausen am Staffelsee raised over 50,000 euros for the foundation thanks to performances by Schandmaul , BeNUTS and Biermösl Blosn . The proceeds from the “OpenAir-Kino-kultURKNALL” 2004, when 900 tons of sand were invited to the beach party on the edge of the Alps on the former Hummelsheim factory site, also went to the foundation. In 2005 the "kultURKNALL" returned to the Fiedlerspitz site in Seehausen. In addition to the appearances of Console , Stoppok , Quadro Nuevo , Jahcoustix , the Well children or voice break, there was also a separate “children's culture BANG”. The event raised a further 40,000 euros for the “Menschen Helfen” foundation. At the first “Mittelalter-KultURKNALL” 2006 in Murnau's Ainmillerpark, jugglers, minstrels, bards and craftsmen could be seen. Most of the proceeds of 34,000 euros went to a boarding school in Moldova . Because of this success, the association founded the “Menschen-Helfen-Fonds for children and needy people” (“Children's Fund” for short). Up to 50% of the fund's capital goes to charitable organizations in the Staffelsee region, the other part goes to solid projects in Moldova and other countries. The “kultURKNALL-Festival” 2007 in the Murnau Seidlpark named after him was dedicated to the architect Emanuel von Seidl . With a large stage, performances by Bananafishbones , Jamaram , Einshoch6 and others, the “Children's Culture BANG”, art and the stand mile, 36,000 euros were brought in. The “kultURKNALL mit Hut”, as it was called in 2008, was all about Ödön von Horváth , who lived in Murnau for a while. Thanks to several theater performances and artists such as Makako Jump , Amplifier , LaBrassBanda , Phil Vetter and others , the festival that took place in Untermarkt and the surrounding alleys brought in more than 30,000 euros. In 2009, the “kultURKNALL am Stahlbad” earned more than 35,500 euros in the club's coffers. On two stages, bands like Grossstadtgeflüster and Bluekilla as well as artists like Die Wellküren and Michael Fitz delighted the numerous spectators. The festival, which is thematically reminiscent of the beginning of tourism in the Staffelsee region, took place near the former Murnau steel bath on the northern part of today's Hochried Clinic in Murnau. In 2010 the story of the Staffelsee island of Wörth was thematically taken up and presented as a play. For this purpose, a footbridge was specially built on the island of Wörth - analogous to the historical footbridge . Musicians like Michael Altinger and Georg Ringsgwandl as well as performances on the MS Seehausen rounded off the program. The net proceeds went to the “Children's Fund” to support regional projects and a day-care center for children in Grigorauca, Moldova . In 2011, the "KULTURKNALL bei Loeb dahoam" lured visitors to the southern end of the Hochried Clinic. Against the backdrop of the former villa of the patron James Loeb, the music festival raised 18,500 euros for the Moldovan children's fund project despite the cold and rain showers. At the “kultURKNALL-Spectaculum” 2012, which was once again set in the Middle Ages and where knights, jugglers and bards populated the otherwise tranquil Molopark in Murnau, more than 23,500 euros were raised for Grigorauca. The record amount of 34,000 euros was achieved by the “kultURKNALL im Sperrgebiet” on a training site near Murnau in 2013, where bands such as Raggabund , Notwist and Monaco Bagageoccurred. Despite rainy weather, numerous visitors came to the Fiedlerspitz property in Seehausen am Staffelsee in 2014 to listen to bands such as Kellerkommando , BBou and Vladiwoodtsok . The 2015 event was dedicated to the history of Murnau Castle . Passafire , the Mundwerk crew , Karin Rabhansl and the local hero Impala Ray were on the stages . The 2016 event was characterized by theater and actions around the Murnau market fires. In the closed Burggraben-Strasse and in the spa gardens, the festival raised the highest amount to date of 50,400 euros.
