Governor of the Bank of England
The Governor of the Bank of England is the highest position in the Bank of England . It is nominally a public service post . The appointment is made within the bank, with the monarch officially confirming this. The incumbent trains his or her successor himself. The Governor of the Bank of England chairs the Monetary Policy Committee , which plays an important role in guiding national economic and monetary policy in the UK . In addition, the Governor of the Bank of England chairs the Financial Policy Committee (FPC) and the Committee of the Prudential Regulation Authority (PRA).
The incumbent Governor of the Bank of England is Andrew Bailey , who took up his eight-year term on March 16, 2020. The so far only non-British who held this post was the Canadian Mark Carney (2013-2020).
