Government Gazette (1983)

The Government Gazette ( Afrikaans : Staatskoerant ), often just called the Gazette for short , is the official printed communication organ of the Republic of South Africa and is used for communication between the government and the general public. It has been published by the government of the country under this name since 1961. The previous publication was called the Union of South Africa government gazette .

The Government Gazette is used for the official publication of the laws passed by Parliament, the declarations of the President's office and all ministries. The announced here information laws ( acts ), proclamations ( proclamations ), notices ( notices ) statements or position papers, as well as matters relating to corporate registrations, land restitution, licenses and approvals.

The technical production of the Gazette is in the hands of the Government Printing Works (GPW) in Pretoria . From this point the distribution of the copies published in the last three years takes place. Older editions of the Government Gazette are made available through the National Library of South Africa or online on the Green Gazette SA website .

South African provinces

In the provinces of South Africa , the provincial governments publish their own official gazettes, which are named after the state-wide notification organ, for example the Provincial Gazette of KwaZulu-Natal .

Time of the South African administration in South West Africa / Namibia

With the mandate of the League of Nations to administer the former colony of German South West Africa by the South African Union or later Republic of South Africa, a SWA administration led by the government in Pretoria developed, which published its own official communication organ in the sense of a legal gazette. It was published from 1921 to 1990 under the title Official Gazette of South West Africa (1915-1920: Official gazette of the Protectorate of South-West Africa in military occupation of the Union forces ). It published the legal provisions and official notices of the respective administrator or administrator-general of South West Africa .
