The Government House (literally translated government building ) in Hobart is the official residence and official residence of the Governor of Tasmania . There were a total of three Government Houses in Hobart.

After two years in a makeshift tent, Governor David Collins moved into the first Government House, a new wooden building. After bricks became available, the house was expanded, but it remained a house with only three rooms that did not meet the requirements of a seat of government. In 1817 the second Government House was built, which had 14 rooms on two floors. But this building was not an ideal solution either, so it was demolished again in 1858.

As early as 1855, construction began on a new building, located at the Royal Tasmanian Botanical Gardens, which was designed much more comfortably. The slate for the roof was specially imported from Wales . The work was completed after two years of construction in 1857, and on January 2, 1858, Governor Henry Young moved into the house . The house has 73 rooms and a large garden area.

Throughout the year, government meetings, business lunches and various other events take place in Government House. Both the governor and his representative have their offices in the building.
