Government House (literally translated government building ) is the common name of the office and residence of a governor-general , governor or lieutenant governor (lieutenant governor) in the countries of the Commonwealth of Nations and the former British Empire .

Australia

The Government House (Canberra) is the residence of the Governor-General of Australia . In addition, the residences of the governors of the Australian states and territories are also referred to as the Government House:
