Lilla Ihr burial ground

The grave field of Lilla Ihr ( German  "Klein Ihr " ) lies next to the road between the Takstens farms in Lärbro and Stora Ihr in Hellvi , southeast of the Lilla Ihr farm, on the Swedish island of Gotland . Judging by the shapes of the graves, the grave field was used from the late Iron Age to the Viking Age (around 400 to 1050 AD). The oldest part, with graves from the Iron Age, lies in the northwest. The graves of the Viking Age are in the southeastern part.

Lilla yours is over 600 visible round stone circles and stone cairns to Lilla Bjärs one of the largest cemeteries Gotland. Originally it was in a wood south of the old road from Takstens to Stora Ihr. The current road layout was created at the beginning of the 1930s, with parts of the burial ground being destroyed. Studies were carried out in connection with the road relocation, which were later supplemented by scientific studies under the direction of Mårten Stenberger . Thereby one came across picture stones of the older type. Parts of the rich finds, u. a. Weapons and jewelry ( fish heads ) can be seen in the permanent exhibition in the Gotlands Fornsal County Museum in Visby .
