Location of Danderyd

The burial ground of Osby (also Ösby) in Danderyd (a place called Osby is in Skåne and Denmark) in Djursholm in the north of Stockholm in Sweden is on both sides of Dahlbergsvägen, south of Stenbocksvägen, clearly visible in a pasture. Presumably there was a continuous row of graves here in the past. A dozen graves were removed after the 1964 archaeological survey. One square and about two dozen round stone settings have been preserved .

The excavation covered almost 500 square meters. All finds, mainly charcoal, bones and pottery shards came from cremation graves from the late Iron Age . Ornate glass and traces of glass flow, bone fragments, fragments of a Thor's hammer and a charred but well-preserved loaf of bread were also found.

In some graves, the remains of the foundations of a 20-25 m long and 9 m wide house were found. There were numerous post holes inside the house, but there was no fireplace. Shards and traces of metalworking, a wedge-shaped bronze pendant and a suspected horseshoe were found within the foundations. The marked outlines of the foundation can be seen in the pasture.

Nearby is the Svalnäsgravfaltet.

The boat

The oak dugout canoe found near Ösbysjön in 1924 is an unusual find from the area . It is about three meters long and 70–80 cm wide. The bottom is flat on the inside and rounded on the outside. The boat was dated to the 12th century using C14 analysis. It got into a magazine and was forgotten. It was rediscovered during an exhibition that was shown in 1987.
