The Grímsstaðamúli is a mountain in the west of Iceland .
Surname
It is believed that the mountain was also called Skarðsheiði in the past , like the high mountain range near Borgarnes . This is derived from the traditional name of a path at its foot that used to be much traveled, which leads from the west of Iceland to the Snæfellsnes peninsula ( Skarðsheiðarvegur ).
location
The mountain lies at the entrance to the Hítadalur , an area dominated by the central volcano of the Ljósufjöll .
It rises like a cliff from the marshy plain of the Mýrar north of Borgarnes. To the north of it lies the Hraundalur, east the Grenjadalur.
shape
The mountain, which is flattened at the top, reaches its highest height of 495 m in the Hrosshyrna hill resting on the summit plateau .
Abandoned courtyards
South below him are the now abandoned farms Grímsstaðir and Grenjastaðir.
hike
From Grímsstaðir farm you can easily get to the high plateau and the Hrosshyrna peak.
