Start-up competition - start successfully with multimedia

The “ Start -up competition - start successfully with multimedia” was an ideas competition held in Germany from 2004 to 2010 with the aim of identifying promising technology-oriented start-ups in the multimedia segment and promoting and accompanying the step into the start-up. The prizes were awarded by the Federal Ministry of Economics . The winners of the annual competition rounds were usually at the major ITK and multimedia trade fairs , including SYSTEMS , GamesConvention and eHome, CeBIT and IFA, awarded and presented. In addition, from 2007 onwards, the award winning teams were taken into account at the annual founders' congress for the “Multimedia Foundation of the Year” of the Federal Ministry of Economics.

The competition

Between 2004 and 2010, three competition rounds were held each year, and two from 2007 onwards. In each round of the competition, up to three winners received 25,000 euros as start-up capital for their planned company. Of this, 5,000 euros were paid out when the winners were announced, the remaining 20,000 euros only after the establishment of the company was completed. An additional component of the prize was professional coaching for business management or technical support for the start-up of the company. Up to ten other winners were awarded a starting bonus of 5,000 euros.

Starting in 2007, up to five main prizes and up to 15 additional prizes were awarded per competition round, with the amount of prize money remaining unchanged. In addition, an additional prize was awarded in each of the competition rounds on a special focus topic. The special prizes were each initiated by an additional sponsor.

Participation requirements

Participation was open to all natural persons residing in Germany who wanted to set up a multimedia company in Germany or who had founded a company no more than four months before the first submission.
